Although still fairly new, Ms. Christina Little, secretary at Wheeling Park has already made a profound impact on students and staff. Her hard work, dedication, and positive attitude helps matters run smoothly, and enable students to talk to her comfortably.
Before working as a secretary at Wheeling Park High School, Ms. Little worked many other jobs. But she discovered her passion for secretary-type work when she lived in California for a short time working as an Office Administrator.
“California was amazing, it’s beautiful, gorgeous, but I really missed my family so I moved back down here,” said Ms. Little.
After moving back to Wheeling, Ms. Little decided to get certified in all types of jobs in schools, which includes: Sub-Custodian, Sub-Cook, Sub-Aid, and Sub-Secretary. “My whole thing was, If I had planned to work for the schools until my retirement, I wanted to try each one and see which one is for me,” said Ms. Little.
From there on, Ms.Little started out as an aid and eventually transferred to a cook job at our very own Wheeling Park High School.
“It’s really tough work that they do, I don’t think many of the kids understand how much goes into preparing for such a large number of students”, said Ms. Little.
As summer approached, Ms. Little went back to her job as an aid because she enjoyed that job more than her cook job, however; shortly after, there was an opening for a secretary job at Wheeling Park, which is how she became the secretary at Wheeling Park High School.
“I have been here for the last two years, and it’s just been amazing in the counseling department,” said Ms.Little. “The transition from being an aid and a cook to secretary wasn’t really difficult because I had experience in a kind of position like secretary before, and honestly, it just felt a little bit more natural, I tend to lean toward that kind of work. I’m very very organized, so it’s just nice to have everything in one place, it’s easy for me to handle.”
Ms. Little approaches her position in our school with pride and enjoys seeing the fruit of her labor.
“I would say last year my biggest accomplishment was the senior awards. It was really amazing to see how much my hard work paid off into a beautiful ceremony,” said Ms. Little.
Ms. Little is a proud sponsor for Paws For A Cause, one of the clubs at Wheeling Park, and she is also proud of her scholarship shelf that she built from scratch.
“It’s always nice when someone comes in and is like ‘Oh this is nice, did the carpentry kids do this’, and I’m like nope I did,” said Ms. Little.
Ms. Little goes above and beyond at Wheeling Park every day, her hard work and kindness doesn’t go unnoticed.
“It’s been a difficult job, but it’s very rewarding. My experience is I really like the rapport I have with students, I feel like some of them can just come in and just tell me anything and talk to me, so I like that I am a friendly enough face for them to feel comforted,” said Ms.Little. “We have so much to offer as a school, in whole, that it makes a very enjoyable place to be and a place to work for.”
It can be difficult to go out of our comfort zone and try new things, especially as a high schooler, still trying to figure ourselves out.
“Just do it. I know that courage is hard to ‘just do it’, but you’re not going to know what you’re capable of and what you resonate with until you do it,” says Ms. Little.
The name may be “Little” but the impact in our building is surely massive.
