Sydney Willson is the definition of a woman with many talents. Not only is she an actor, but she’s also a script-writer, publisher, and a friend to all. Sydney plans on majoring in English while focusing on publishing and putting an emphasis on playwriting.
She chose her major because she enjoys writing and it is her passion.
“I am double majoring in English with an emphasis in creative writing, and my second major is professional writing and editing, as well as a minor in theater. I love writing, and I plan to use my creative writing and theatre focus to work toward my playwriting career, but I also love literature itself. I plan to work in a publishing and editing firm to earn a constant income while pursuing my passion— theatre,” said Sydney.Â
Theater has transformed Sydney because that is where her heart and talent are.
Sydney said, “Theatre has always been a big portion of my life. I started performing at the age of six, and ever since then, I knew it was meant to be. What I love about theatre the most is the joy that it brings others, and what better way to spend your time than to be pursuing your passion to bring audiences happiness?”
Later, she took up playwriting and it transformed her life.
“I started writing my play, ‘Who’s the Villain?’ the spring of my junior year. There are many different documents and stories that I was playing with about the world I created, but when I conceptualized my main characters, I knew that my story had to mean more than just another two-dimensional one-act. So I wrote about the sad truth of high school life and the troubles that every student can relate to. This process really helped me understand the depth of what I was writing, and my final revision of my script is something that will forever be held close to my heart,” said Sydney.
During her high school career, Sydney has won many awards that highlight her talent.
“Having this opportunity has been such a blessing, and being able to compete in this show throughout the year with a class full of incredibly dedicated and loyal classmates has been the experience of a lifetime. Writing a play like mine, I was worried that the audience wouldn’t get it, but as we passed through the ranks of competition, I realized that I’d really created something good. This summer, I am in the process of copywriting my show to earn full ownership rights, because while at the state competition, a few professors were interested in using my show for their directing students and even producing my show on a bigger stage somewhere in the future,” said Sydney.
Good luck to you, Sydney, and all that you do!
