When people think of WPHP, The Speech and Debate Team, or The Park Press, one name often comes to mind: senior Will Medovic.
As a senior, Will has spent the last 3 years shaping and leading everything he has been a part of. Will has been involved in The Park Press since its revamp in 2022, serving as the social media manager in his sophomore and junior years. In his Senior year, Will has proudly served as the Director of Communications,
“My favorite part of being involved with the Park Press was getting to have a voice,” said Will, “Here at Wheeling Park it’s so hard for you to make yourself heard to such a big group of people, but being apart of this newspaper’s revival gave me that opportunity to have my voice heard and for people to hear what I had to say.”
Will is truly a jack of many trades. In addition to his time in The Park Press, Will has also been deeply involved in the WPHP Broadcasting program since freshman year, working as a reporter, videographer, anchor, and most recently as the executive producer of the “The Patriot Connection.” Speech and Debate is another facet of Will’s high school career that he cares deeply about.
“My personal greatest accomplishment in my time at Wheeling Park High School has to be everything I’ve done on the speech and debate team,” said Will “In the beginning, coming in as a freshman who didn’t make the team when I originally tried out, to becoming a state champion and a national finalist … I cannot thank speech and debate enough for helping to break me out of my shell more and for continuing to build me into who I am today.”
Speech and Debate Coach, Isabella Droginske has watched Will over the past four years grow into a confident and motivated young man through both the Park Press and the team.
“We don’t often make mistakes but we have been celebrating correcting our mistake and adding Will to the team since early in his sophomore year. I can’t imagine this year without his true leadership and dedication. He has been a role model of perserverance. Will is the personification of the phrase: good things happen to good people,” said Droginske.
Will originally went to private school up until his freshman year. The transition was not easy at first, but through getting involved and putting himself out there, Will has truly found his niche at Wheeling Park.
After graduation, Will plans to continue his passion in Journalism and TV production. He contributes the discovery of his passion to Wheeling Park Career Technical Education, something that he claims he’d be lost without,
“I wouldn’t have a clue what I was going to do after I graduate but thanks to that and the Career Technical education program I know exactly where I want to be and what I want to do,” said Will “After graduation I plan to attend West Virginia University and major in journalism and I plan to go into the Television News field and become a reporter. I truly owe my future plans to Wheeling Park High School.”
As Will prepares to graduate, his impact on Wheeling Park High School will not be forgotten. His dedication and work ethic has left a lasting impression on the staff of Park and the programs he has been a part of, while his personality and positive attitude has created lifelong friendships.
