Mrs. Unique Murphy is the Community in Schools Liason for Wheeling Park High School and a social worker for the community. She is known throughout the school for giving the best advice and connecting with students on their level.
How does Mrs. Murphy connect with students so well?
“I’m a 27 year old teenager,” said Murphy, “I’m into the activities that I do, the sports that I play, like snowboarding. It keeps me young outside of school. I feel like Hannah Montana outside of school I’m one person and then in school I’m totally different human being.”
Her active lifestyle outside of school connects her to students around Park, but so do her personal hobbies. Mrs. Murphy is all about aesthetics. She loves to craft and even had her own small business making earrings. She loves interior design and planning big events. Many of those hobbies translate directly to her work at Park including her affinity for social media.
“I like shoes, shopping–that’s my hobby–making TikToks. I love making videos like I used to do that before I was an adult,” said Murphy.
Mrs. Murphy has many life goals to still achieve. The first is one many people can connect with–do better than the generation before her:
“My biggest goal is to be the most positive influence to my daughter. My mom wasn’t very responsible, so I want to be like everything that my mom wasn’t for my daughter,” said Murphy. “When [my daughter] grows up, she doesn’t have to like question or wonder why certain things were certain ways. You know, sometimes people will say things like I had to grow up really fast or I had a hard life. My goal was to not have my daughter have to say things like that. I don’t want her to have it easy, but I just want her to pay attention and to not have to struggle all her life.”
At home, Mrs. Murphy wants to be the best influence possible on her daughter and at school, Mrs. Murphy wants to be the best influence on her students.
“I want to reach my full potential. I always want to learn I want to keep learning. I want you [students] to learn from like my mistakes or like with the hardships that I’ve had to experience,” said Murphy.
