Are you looking to add a furry friend to your family? Make sure you look into adopting from shelters before buying from a breeder! Adopting from the shelters near you can not only give you a best friend, but can give the animals you adopt a second chance for a good life.
Many shelters are too full to hold any more animals, which may lead to shelters letting people foster to make room for other animals.
“Yes, we are full of cats and somewhat of dogs. It’s because of housing and not allowing people to have pets or people passing away,” said a Facebook representative from the Ohio County Animal Shelter.
If you are not able to adopt a pet right now please consider other ways to help them.
“You can volunteer at the shelter, they are always looking for people to help clean, or just simply donate. Go to your local dollar store, get toys to take to the shelter, blankets to take they are always looking for some kind of supplies.”, said Jessica Yost, teacher at Wheeling Park High School and adviser of the Paws For A Cause club.
Paws For A Cause is working this year to help get more animals adopted.
“Last year we hosted our very first adoption event at Wheeling Park, the event featured four different shelters and rescues with both cats and dogs making an appearance. We had an amazing turn out and most of the animals who made an appearance were applied for or adopted. Our goal this year is to make that event bigger and better than last year.”, said Gianna Landis, one of the presidents of the WPHS chapter of Paws for a Cause.
