All You Need to Know: Hoco

All+You+Need+to+Know%3A+Hoco

Ah, homecoming. One of the most exciting events of the year. The event that’s most crucial to the teenage experience. What’s one of the first things that pops into your head when you think of homecoming? Spirit week, of course!

Mrs. Trifaro gives us all the inside scoop on the upcoming homecoming spirit week themes:

Monday- Anything but a backpack.

What’s better than carrying your school supplies in a plain, ordinary everyday backpack? Anything BUT a backpack! A basket, gift bag, or even a purse could be used! So put on your thinking caps and come up with something clever for this fun, not-so-ordinary spirit theme day one.

Tuesday- Celebrity Tuesday.

Choose your favorite celebrity and dress as them for the second day of hoco spirit week! There are so many options to choose from for this theme. Your favorite reality tv star, sports athlete, singer, or even an actor! The variety to this theme is endless, so get in spirit as your fave celeb!

Wednesday- White lie Wednesday.

Ugh, I hate this theme! White lie Wednesday is the most ridiculous theme anyone could ever come up with. That’s an example of a white lie. Put on a white t-shirt and write down a harmless lie!

Thursday- Rhyme without reason.

Grab a friend and pick two things that rhyme without a reason! Get clever with this one and be original! And remember- it’s rhyme without a reason, so it doesn’t have to make sense!

Friday- Barbienheimer.

Barbie and Oppenheimer were all the rage back in July. This spirit theme gives you the opportunity to dress in the pinkest clothes you own to show your inner barbie, OR a spiffy suit and tie (and possibly a fedora hat) to be like Oppenheimer! Who will win, Barbie or Oppenheimer? Get in spirit and find out!

These are the best and most exciting lineups of spirit week themes we’ve ever had at Wheeling Park. So get in spirit for spirit week! Because themes like this come rarely, and we should embrace them!

And don’t forget to mark your calendars! Because homecoming is October 21st, 2023, and you have a little less than a month to get ready! Mrs. Unique Murphy is giving students a wonderful opportunity to have the perfect homecoming get ready.

“There’s around 8 stylists coming and each of them do different things. I have several hairstylists coming to do hair, I have several MUA’s to do makeup, and I have two nail technicians who will do gel polish. And all of that is free to the students,” said Mrs. Unique.

This is such an exciting experience, giving everyone the opportunity to have a fabulous homecoming get-ready. Mrs. Unique shared with me why she came up with this idea, and how it was brought to be.

“It really originated with me, when I was a student here. Had I not been working, I would have never been able to go to a dance because I didn’t have a parent to pay for everything,” Mrs. Unique explained when I asked how the idea was created. “I posted it on Facebook, directly with our parents. And when I got the feedback that I got,  I then took it to administration. It has now taken a life of its own, and it has become a much larger need, and so now the school is larger involved.”

I then asked her if she intended to do this in the following years, and it was the fastest response to a question I’ve ever received.

Mrs. Unique said, “Absolutely. I’m going to do this as long as I’m here. As long as there’s a need,” said Mrs. Unique.

“And for kids who do have parents who have money but not enough money to splurge on hair, nails and makeup and getting your haircut- those things are important. Those things are crucial for a teenager’s development. Every kid deserves to have that really glamourous getting ready for hoco experience,” said Mrs. Unique.

The services are being offered at the House of Carpenter 200 S Front St. Wheeling, 26003, on Wheeling Island. From 9 A.M. to 2 P.M. on October 21st, 2023, you can experience the dream homecoming get-ready. So contact Mrs. Unique Murphy, and have the best time at homecoming!
