Wheeling Park High School has won the West Virginia State Hockey Championships! This amazing 6-2 win against Morgantown High School made Park hockey back-to-back state champions.
This championship allows the team to move on to nationals, which they also attended in 2025. Senior, Hailey Hastings, is very excited to compete at the national level again.
“The atmosphere is just so much fun. The competitive level is higher and it’s just a blast to be there,” said Hastings.
This is also a big achievement for not only the team, but also Hastings herself, because of how long she’s been immersed in the world of hockey.
“I probably started skating around the age of three and I started playing hockey around the age of four or five,” said Hastings.
This also rings true to senior Cooper Abraham.
“I think I was three years old when I started skating and four when I started playing hockey,” said Abraham.
Both Abraham and Hastings were introduced to the sport by a family member.
Bringing attention back to the national tournament, last year, Wheeling Park’s hockey team made it to the semifinals.
This year, Hastings has high faith in her team at nationals this year.
“I have pretty good hopes that we will make it pretty far with the team we have,” said Hastings, “I think we have all built on each other these past couple months and we’re really excited to get out there.”
Wheeling Park hockey, we wish you luck at nationals and in the rest of your season!
