Wheeling Park High School undoubtedly has a favorite teacher duo. Mrs. Schrebe and Mrs. Conley are not only two English teachers at Wheeling Park who share responsibilities, but they also happen to be the best team in the English department.
Although the two seem to be so close now, they haven’t known each other forever. The duo found each other here at Wheeling Park High School.
“So it actually wasn’t right away,” said Mrs Schrebe, “I love Mrs. Conley, and she’ll tell you this about her: she is very quiet at first. Then once we started teaching the same things and working together, and in our PLC time, we got to know each other a lot better, and we have a ton of stuff in common.”
Mrs. Conley shares this sentiment. “I had been teaching at Park for three years already when she started. I’m not someone who likes change very much, so I’m sorry to say I wasn’t very welcoming to her at first,” said Mrs. Conley, “However, it didn’t take long at all for us to become friends.”
Together, they teach English 9 Honors, English 10 Honors, and Film Studies. They’re able to share work and take off some of the burden that comes with assigning classwork.
“It definitely helps with stress management,” said Mrs Schrebe, “For example, before she had film studies, I pretty much had the whole thing built. So I was able to help her get it established. So it really helps both of us in terms of workload and management.”
It’s clear to all of Wheeling Park staff how monumental their bond is to the workplace experience.
“You can tell that Mrs. Conley and Mrs. Schrebe have both a great friendship and a great working relationship,” said Head Principal Mrs. Dailer, “Them allowing the kids to see how much fun they have at work is so great for the school climate. I appreciate it so much.”
The two also spend time together outside of the work environment. Whether their families are hanging out together or they meet to catch up on common interests, it’s clear how easy their relationship is.
“With our kids being similar ages, there are a lot of times I’ll message her over break: Do you want to go? Or do you want to meet?” said Mrs. Schrebe. Mrs. Conley agrees. “We share so much in common, it’s comical,” said Mrs. Conley, “We both love ‘The Real Housewives’ and reality TV, we both love reading, we have so many shared memes.”
Outside of the classroom and their personal life, they also have an infamous bond in the back hallway. Mrs. Zumbrennan notes how they’re friendship brings a positive atmosphere to work.
“They’ve always been like a pair, and they bring not just to our academics, they work really well together, but their positive vibe in the back hall,” said Mrs. Zumbrennan. “They’re always up for spirit weeks, and they plan their outfits to match. When kids walk by, they’ll high-five them, comment on their clothes, and they just, they really have a relationship with kids.”
Mrs. Conley and Mrs. Schrebe are truly the dynamic duo that hold Wheeling Park High School together.
