On February 27th from 5-8 p.m., Wheeling Park High School welcomed prospective students and their families from across the county to experience what the Park has to offer.
The clubs, departments, and athletics came out to encourage students to look into their specific program and get involved here at Park.
Each individual family entered in the main lobby, and was given a tour of the school by one of the many Freshman Mentors volunteering their time. From there they were given the opportunity to seek out their specific interests, and talk to teachers.
The school was split into sections depending on their category. Athletics were in the gym, clubs and electives were stationed in the Innovative Learning Center, the music department stayed in their section of the woods, and each of the four core departments had a board to advertise their programs in that specific area of the school. Teachers were stationed in their classrooms around the building as well.
Senior Ariauna Friend represented the Speech and Debate team in the Presentation space in the ILC. Friend got to talk to prospective students about the team and how she balances her other myriad of extracurricular activites.
“It is important to interact with 8th graders a lot of what a counselor might tell them is not what a student would tell them about experiencing the Park,” said Friend.
Freshman Mentors helped families navigate the building as a tour guide, but also answered many questions for vistors about our school.
“For students to come up and see the school increases the sense of belonging they will have when they come up here,” said Ciera Faulstick who was a Freshman Mentor for the evening.
While academics are an important daily piece of our Palace on the Hill, All About Park showcases the many programs and teams that make our building so wonderfully diverse. Sports teams were able to talk to prospective athletes about their futures and CTE programs were able to showcase the job-ready-day-one mindset.
“This shows what we have to offer here with all of our sports programs and everything we have here at Park,” said junior Owen Dobryzynski-Hines who represented the track and field team.
