4 Do’s and Don’ts of Valentine’s Day

Don’t wait to put together your valentines plans or gifts at the last minute. As a chronic control freak everything I do is planned weeks, even months in advance. Valentine’s day is no different. In fact, I have already purchased my boyfriend’s gift. If the reason you’re putting things off is because you aren’t sure about what to do, please refer to the article that quite literally tells you different dates for different types of people.

Do focus more on quality than quantity. With Christmas just passing, money is tight for most teenagers in a relationship that has persevered through the holiday season. Also I feel that a sentimental gift is most fitting for the holiday of love. As a class A romantic, sappy gifts mean so much more than a gift that will someday end up in a landfill.

Don’t feel obligated to do anything you aren’t comfortable with. Cupid may shoot the love arrow, but you set your boundaries. Valentine’s day revolves around passion, but passion only occurs when things are done consensually. If you are spending this Saint Valentine’s day with that lucky someone, don’t forget to do a quick check in before things get spicy. Consent is the key to the heart.

Do open up your heart. This lovely holiday is the perfect time to confess how you really feel. Whether that’s writing a love letter to your partner, having a heart to heart with your closest friends, or finally disclosing how you really feel for your crush. I enjoy seeing all the love around this time of the year, so don’t forget to show your favorite school newspaper some. Follow our instagram @the_parkpress.
