Wheeling Park High School closes for the summer on May 24, but a lot has happened this year. All school fields have been busy with new projects all year, from sports to arts and academics. Let’s review the 2023-2024 school year, from wins to losses, Homecoming and Prom, and everything in between.
August:
22nd: Wheeling Park High School starts its 2023-2024 school year.
September:
8th: Student council was voted on and announced.
Football, cross country, volleyball, and soccer are all at the heart of this month’s seasons. Football went 2-2. Volleyball went 9-7-1. Girls varsity soccer went 6-1-1. Finally, boys varsity soccer went 3-0.
“My favorite part was at the beginning of the school year,” said Nujahat Sinha, junior. “Football season, I just love it because it was my first experience with it.”
October:
19th: Boys varsity soccer end their season with a record 6-2-0.
20th: Football wins the homecoming game with a score of 54 – 13.
21st: Homecoming takes place in the main gym.
“My favorite part of the year was homecoming,” said Grace Frangos, freshman.
28th: Cross country competes at the WV AAA championship.
31st: Volleyball ends their season with a record 22-9-1.
November:
10th: the Park Players open Radium Girls.
12th: Varsity soccer girls end their season with a record 11-3-2.
18-26th: Thanksgiving Break!
December:
2nd: Football plays their last game with a record of 8-3-0.
9th: The cheer team wins AAA State Runner-Up.
15-17th: Festival of Sound is performed in the J.B. Performing Arts Chamber.
21-2nd: Winter Break!
January:
6th: First Annual Wheeling Park Winter Classic Speech and Debate Tournament
20th: Boys swim finishes runner-up at the OVAC Championship.
February:
3rd: The cheer team wins the 5A OVAC championship.
3rd: Girls basketball wins the 5A OVAC championship.
28th: A “Pup Rally” was hosted to welcome Parker to Wheeling Park High School.
March:
1st. Girls basketball wins the regional championship.
7th: Boys basketball wins the regional champions.
9th: Girls basketball wins the state championship.
9th: Speech & Debate won their 44th consecutive state title.
9th: Robotics wins the state tournament.
23-2nd: Spring Break!
“My favorite part of the year was spring break,” said Elliana Mccabe, freshman.
April:
3-7th: The flood occurred a.k.a second spring break.
28-30th: Robotics complete at Worlds in Dallas, TX.
27th: Prom takes place at the White Palace.
“I liked the pep assemblies,” said Dr. Romick. “I had a lot of fun doing the red carpet announcements at prom.”
May:
3rd: The Park Players open Mamma Mia!
10th: Senior’s last day and award ceremony.
19th: Graduation.
24th: The school year is officially over for all Ohio County students.
