As summer approaches the spring sports begin the countdown towards the end of their seasons. Tennis is no exception as this week they are preparing to head to states today. Leading up to this big weekend tennis has had a long and successful season.
They have been working hard since March of this year and it has paid off.
“It’s been going really well we’ve had a lot of success with our matches recently, and we are able to pull out tight matches when we need to,” said senior, Madeline Bradshaw.
Two weeks ago the tennis team headed to OVACS where all of the girls had much success. Madeline Bradshaw and Sam Piko won first in women’s doubles, Madeline secured first in singles, with Sam taking second. With Marissa Hunley and Lauren Eskins both achieving semi-finalists in their respective events.
Both Sam and Madeline have promising futures in tennis. Madeline will be attending Denison University in the fall to play tennis, she feels that playing at Park has helped get her excited to play at a higher level.
“I feel like tennis at Park with the positive atmosphere has truly made me excited for playing in college because obviously college tennis is a little more competitive than high school, but the positive atmosphere makes in all enjoyable,” said Bradshaw.
Sam Piko is only a freshman, but she is ranked second in singles.
“Going in I knew I would be second, but it has been a great experience to be that high on the team and get to play with Madeline,” said freshman, Sam Piko.
But to this team tennis isn’t just about winning matches, being together on the team also has such an impact on each of them. Making new friends, laughing together, and making the best out of the season is what this team truly loves.
“You meet a lot of new people, tennis is a very social sport, even if you lose you can still be friends with the person you played against,” said junior, Brooks Wharry.
Whether the team is playing at home or traveling to an away game, they are always sure to be having fun and hyping each other up, so they can all play their best.
“My favorite part of the season would probably be riding the bus together because we have had a few away matches,” said Piko.
Looking into this weekend Madeline and Sam will be headed down to Charleston as they wrap up the final leg of the season.
“I’m looking forward to competing well and just for the good competition that will be down there,” said Bradshaw.
Wish these two luck as they take on states today!!
