The 2026 Girls Lacrosse season is finally underway!
Led by Coach Ron Ross and captains Emma Elswick, Brooklyn Goodwin, and Rachel Lewis, the team is hopeful for a successful season.
“I’m hopeful for a good season. We have much better odds going into this year than we did last year,” said junior captain Lewis.
The Lacrosse Team at Wheeling Park is considered a club, not a school sport, meaning it is costly to play.
“We would definitely be able to drum up more interest if it didn’t cost as much to play,” said Lewis, “It sets us back a lot, but this year I think we can win despite being only a club”.
Even with the cost, the team has almost doubled in size this year. “Most of the time last year, we either had no subs or were playing a man down. With the size of the team this year, we’ll have much better opportunities,” said junior player, Taryn Parsons.
Because of the novelty, there are so many opportunities available for the girls.
“We have a senior who has already committed to play in college, and many more could have the opportunity to do so if they wanted,” said Lewis.
All in all, the Wheeling Park Girls’ lacrosse team is gearing up for a good season. Their first home game was March 14th at Wheeling Island Stadium. The girls’ LAX travel to Morgantown on 3/19 and play their next home game on 3/21 against St Albans.
