Temperatures are starting to warm up, which means our spring sports are off and running. Coming off a 24 win season a year ago, the baseball team is looking to continue that success with a new head coach. The team also graduated seven seniors last year, and will certainly be playing with a heavy heart being the first season since the passing of Coach Steve Myers. Coach Myers will be honored throughout the season in several ways.
“Coach Myers will be honored through the team’s character and work ethic. These are lessons he instilled in our players. He will always be a part of our team and I will continue to teach the lessons of life through baseball. We will also have a banner hanging along the third base line honoring him. The players’ uniforms will be adorned with a patch and each player’s hat will carry his number. Every batting helmet will have a sticker on it in remembrance of Coach Myers. In addition, on April 8 we will host the Steve Myers Legacy. This will be a varsity game against John Marshall High School and all donations will be in his honor to the American Cancer Society. The players will be wearing orange to raise leukemia awareness,” said Coach Chad Stout.
The team after last season once again has high expectations for this season, Coach Stout explains that they hope to continually get better, and he is excited to see what the players can do who are replacing those seven seniors on the roster.
“Our expectations for the 2026 season is to become a team on and off the field by caring for one another. We are looking forward to improving as the season progresses with the plan of playing our best at the end by achieving a state tournament berth. We graduated seven seniors that contributed in some way. Filling those roles will be players getting their first varsity experience but we believe they are very capable,” said Stout.
There are also several seniors on the team this year, looking to end their high school careers with another successful season. One of those seniors is Kolten Whitmire, who will be playing collegiate baseball at Seton Hill, and he also talked about the expectations for the season.
“I think just the work in the offseason that we put in, that will help us as a team, whether it’s producing more runs, or just situational stuff that we might need to work on, and that would lead to later on success down the road,” said Whitmire.
The team is excited for the season ahead, with several dates to look forward to this season, that includes 13 scheduled home games. Their season will begin on March 19th with an away game up Route 2 against Brooke. With their first home game coming with a doubleheader against Grace Academy (MD) on March 21st. The team wants everyone to come out and support them throughout the season, and Coach Stout also wanted everyone to know a couple notable dates throughout the season.
“Please come out and support us! We love seeing family, friends, and students in the stands. This season we will hold our first ever middle school night on March 31st. Our great group of seniors will be recognized on April 14th. Lastly, we will be hosting a Military Appreciation game on April 30th, where we will be wearing the National Guard camouflage baseball jerseys. We hope to see you at Patriot field wearing your red, white, and blue,” said Stout.
