The Textured Hair Expo is an event that brings together hairstylists and beauty professionals and people from the valley. The event will take place on February 25 from 5 p.m to 6:30 p.m at Bridge Street Middle School. This event showcases how to maintain hair and different beauty techniques. People who attend get to discover new things about beauty and hair care and get to meet new people! This year, Mrs. Murphy is hosting it for the fifth-time at Bridge Street Middle School.
“My favorite part is at the end of the Expo when all of the work is done and the volunteers and I get the chance to debrief and talk about the peak and pit of the event. We go over what worked and what needs changed, what we enjoyed about the event and what the businesses we should incorporate for the next year,” said Murphy. “I always love getting their feedback even when it’s negative because this event means so much to me and the families who attend so I want it to continue getting better each year”.
The local businesses that are included are: Luxury Lifestyles,Just Me, Stradwicks Fade Cave, Two Times, Alpha Clothing, Green’s Photography, LLC., Why Don’t You Stay Awhile, Wicked Beauty and Visionary Minded & the Elite Academy of Hair Design.
Tons of people prepare for the event including staff member at WPHS, Unique Murphy.
“I prepare for the event by reaching out to volunteers for the event first. I always reach out to the barbers, stylists, and small businesses from the year prior to find out if they are interested in participating in the event again ( and they usually are). After I secure my volunteers, we set a date that works for all involved,” said Murphy. “Once all of my volunteers and the date are set, I begin reaching out to various vendors to see if they are willing to donate needed items like hair products, food/drinks, table cloths, etc. From there, I create a flyer and share it with the volunteers as well as the public.”
Students at Park volunteer at the event including senior Hadassah Titus-Glover.
“Since last year, we help make sure everything’s good. We hand out food, products, have all kinds of stations, and all that kind of stuff. It’s a great program!” said Hadassah Titus-Glover, a volunteer at the event.
