Eddie Lee is a senior here at Wheeling Park High School and is a model all students should strive to be. He balances his technical side of being a great mathematician with creativity by being an exceptional cellist. He shows the importance of putting in hard work and dedication everyday to achieve your dreams.
Eddie has an interesting background. He was born in California but moved back to Taiwan when he was very young. He moved back over when he was 14 years old to go to high school in the United States. He is planning on completing university in the states as well. Eddie hopes to become an actuary.
One of Eddie’s main interests is math. He participates in Math Field Day and other Math competitions. Last year, he placed first at the Regional Math field day Competition.
This higher level math and competitiveness is nothing new to Eddie, “Back in Taiwan, when I was in middle school, like seventh or eighth grade, those math classes were like some pre college classes we do in high school,” said Eddie. “I’ve taken almost all the math classes at Wheeling Park. I took AP Statistics sophomore year and finished Calculus BC last year. I’m in CP math right now just for the credit.”Eddie states that his favorite out of the two, however, has to be playing the cello. He is the first chair cellist in All States.
“I started playing the cello when I was five, and this is my thirteenth year playing. I play the cello whenever I’m happy, whenever I’m sad, it just makes me feel way better,” said Eddie. “I feel like I know the cello, and I feel like the cello knows me. It’s music making, which I love.”
Everyone has always been told that the secret to success is practice. For Eddie, this couldn’t be more true.
“I just practice all the time, at least 30 minutes to an hour every day,” said Eddie. “Any free time, I either play the cello or do math, I’m always finding time to play.”
Getting this good takes great discipline and motivation. Eddie’s greatest motivation is to make a better future for himself.
“I want to get into some good colleges,” said Eddie. “That’s the only thing that makes me want to finish my work and get all A’s in my classes.” With this hard work, he hopes to get into a top university next year.
Ms. Grube is Eddie’s strings teacher. He shows a great performance in class and has a great work ethic.
“Eddie is an excellent student,” said Ms. Grube. “He is hardworking and pays attention to details. He’s a leader in the cello section, always helping out his peers. Eddie just played a solo piece at our last concert and did a fantastic job.”
Eddie Lee is a perfect example of how motivation and hard work lead to success. He is who all great students should aspire to be.
