The 2025-2026 Boys and Girls Basketball season is coming up quickly.
The Boys Basketball team’s first game is at Morgantown on Friday, December 12th at Wesbanco Arena. Their first official home game is vs Weir High School on Tuesday, December 16th.
The usual good teams are once again at the top of the rankings going into this season.
“Morgantown is our biggest competition,” said senior player Jamar Creighton.
“Our biggest competition is Morgantown or George Washington,” said another senior player, Josh Huffman.
Their game against Morgantown will be the nightcap of the Sam Andy Classic at 8pm, and it will be a good test for the boys to start the season off with.
The Boys’ Basketball team is preparing for another great season, with Coach Jebbia and the players getting ready.
“If we don’t have the right mindset going into the game, it doesn’t matter how we play,” said senior J.D. Williams.
“We are preparing for this season by conditioning and flex open gyms a couple of days a week. By mid-November, we will be ready to go,” said Coach Jebbia.
“I’m preparing for the upcoming season by making sure I get my shots in every day after school and by doing the workouts Coach Jebbia provides,” said Kolten Whitmire.
The boys team is glad to have several returning players this season.
“We have a lot of guys returning, we have a good senior class, so I think we are going to have a strong year this year,” said junior Jay Bordas.
The Girls’ basketball team’s first game is a home game against Monroe Central on Saturday, December 6th at noon.
The girls are excited to have incoming freshmen talent, considering they graduated 6 seniors last year, a senior class that included Alexis Bordas and LaLa Woods, both now playing college basketball at the Division I Level.
“I think we’ve got a lot of kids coming in with potential,” said Coach Young.
“I’m looking forward to creating new relationships with the girls and bonding as a team,” said Freshman Adriana Moses.
Coach Young is preparing for this season with a weightlifting program they did all summer, and right now, conditioning, flex practices, and open gyms.
“I’m preparing for this season by open gyms, conditioning, and working out outside of just Wheeling Park basketball, including my own individual workouts,” said junior Karringtyn Miller.
The girls are looking forward to the start of a new season, with a team filled with young talent as they hope to continue their success from the last several seasons.
Last season, the girls had a few notable wins including Morgantown when they were ranked 1st in the state and 2023 AAA State Champions Nitro. Let’s hope they keep up the good work for another great season!
