Wheeling Park High School has a wide variety of artists who are students. The Stifel Arts Center decided to host an art gallery for the art students in Ohio County Schools. The winner receives money anywhere from $25 to hundreds of dollars and a scholarship from WLU. These students have been preparing diligently to finalize their projects, and their work will not go unrecognized. The shows normally bring in a professional artist that judge the students on their artwork.
Mr. Shultz, an art teacher at Wheeling Park, helps prepare these students to show off their work.
“I don’t do anything special. I just have them work on their projects and consistently create. Just trying to find ways to make it better. It’s kind of like how some teachers teach for the test, no, I don’t do that, I let them do what they want to do,” said Mr. Schultz.
The future art galleries are taking place at the State Show at the end of the year.
“That’s the big one we are looking at right now. That’s the one that ends the art shows of the year. After that, we host our own celebration of the arts,” said Mr. Schultz.
In an art show, the number of categories is normally around five to six.
“We do one that has twelve different categories. Normally, it is five to six,” said Mr. Schultz.
Luke Annett has won in the Drawing category and received his second collegiate scholarship.
“I’m just going to continue art in college,” said Annett.
He won by drawing a picture of his grandma.
“I wanted to draw a picture of my grandma because I love her,” said Annett.
Come and give support to the artists on their upcoming shows and at Celebration of the Arts on March 25th, 2026.
