***ROWBACK: Due to snow, this event has been rescheduled for March 8th same location and time.***
The Paws for a Cause, Fire and Safety, and Pennies for Art clubs will be holding a quarter action on Saturday, January 31st in the food court. Doors will open at 3 p.m. and the auction will begin at 4 p.m. and will go until 7 p.m. The entry cost is five dollars, and that money will get you a paddle that is used for bidding. This fundraiser will be raising money for the clubs and allow for more opportunities to be opened up for the students.
For Fire and Safety, these funds will help go to a scholarship they have for students and will be used for them to give back to the community in case of any emergencies. For example, this club used their money to support displaced people after the floods. The money will also go to donation drives for Paws for a Cause, and for the club to have money for future activities and supplies, as well with Pennies for Art.
Ms. Freeman and Ms. Little are the main people putting this event together. Ms. Freeman sponsors the Fire and Safety Club and Pennies for Art. Ms. Little sponsors the Paws For A Cause Club. Along with them, students in the clubs are working to put this event together, with the help of their parents as well.
“I think it really benefits everyone…and honestly, it’s just fun” said Molly George.
All three of the clubs met up so that they could begin to plan this event. Students in the clubs will be taking on active roles in the event such as MCing, working the door, selling tickets and paddles, and donating baskets. The students are excited to be there and have a nice time, within a community atmosphere.
“Who doesn’t like the feel good feeling you get when you donate and help and just be supportive in the community” said Ms. Little.
There are going to be a multitude of baskets, some of which have been donated. There will be a little bit of everything for people to enjoy. There will be many vendors there and it will be a great chance to go and support the community and students at Park. It will be a family-friendly event, with food and drinks, while at the same time remaining affordable.
“That was a big part of the event planning to make it affordable and family-friendly, so it’s something for everyone to come to, everyone to enjoy” said Ciara Mead, freshman at Wheeling Park High School.
The leaders of the event are hoping to see by the end of it that people enjoyed their time and were able to win one of the many cool baskets. They would also like to see profit being made by it so that in future years they can make this event a tradition. Everyone is welcome to come to this event and it will truly be a great experience.
