The Ohio Valley Library has long been a hidden gem in Wheeling, providing accessible, free resources to all. Whether it’s the access to Wi-Fi and computers or rentable video games, the opportunity that the library provides to every average citizen is priceless. In addition to resources, the library also has countless different events for all types of demographics. Nayt Knapp started running Game Nights at the library every second and fourth Tuesday of the month from 5-8 p.m. around 2 years ago.
Through a combination of donations and purchases, Game Nights at the library has amassed quite a collection. From games for the PS5 console available to classic card games like Dutch Blitz, the event has something for everyone. A full catalog of the games that the event offers is available on the Ohio County Library’s website.
“It brings a lot of different people, which is really, really nice to see…It’s very refreshing,” said Nayt Knapp, organizer of the event.
Knapp explains that the wide variety of people who come to the event is the best thing about making game nights. That, and the free snacks.
Taylor Andrews, a Wheeling Park High School alumnus, has been going to Game Nights at the library for around a year and a half. Anytime she is home from college, she attends the event with her friends.
“It very quickly became something that I looked forward to…Not only has it been a great way to hang out with my friends, but I’ve also met a lot of cool people through it,” said Andrews.
Overall, Game Night at the library is truly a hidden gem in the basement. If anyone is ever looking for a fun, free event in Wheeling, Game Night is definitely one to note down. The next time the event will be held is January 27th, so mark your calendars!
