A sweet tooth… everyone has one, and sometimes you can’t help but know that you need something special to “hit the spot”. “The Fat Apple” is a locally owned bakery located in Bridgeport, Ohio. When you walk through the doors of this establishment, your inner child will surely come out. They offer a wide range of treats from ice cream to homemade cakes and pies, along with donuts, pastries, chocolates, gummy candies, and anything else you can imagine! And of course, the item that helped owners, Robyn and Don, come up with the business name…their large variety of delicious candy-covered apples.
The Fat Apple first opened its doors in 2016, but at that time, it was only open during holiday weeks and would shut down until the next holiday came around. The business started in Bridgeport because Robyn and Don already owned the building. They used it to hold wedding receptions.
“We always had a business in Bridgeport and graduated from Bridgeport, so we felt that it would be something fun to bring to our hometown,” said Don.
The baked items at the Fat Apple quickly became a bit hit, and they had enough clientele to open bigger and better all year long.
The owners have always loved decorating cakes and baking things, so they thought how fun it would be and open a full bakery and get to do this for work.
“I absolutely love coming up with new things, finding the latest trends, and figuring out how to make them! We both love seeing the smiles on people when they walk through the door!” said Don.
When you walk through the doors, you are not just going to see a full bakery because they offer so much more!
“We are also a chocolate shop, candy shop, toy store, and a full ice cream parlor.” If you visit their second floor, you will see a costume shop, toys, “Build a Buddy”, and even rides for kids to enjoy! “I believe that we have fabulous products that we put our hearts into. We are also an experience-filled, decorated space to capture the inner child of everyone who enters! We also have a wonderful and friendly staff,” said Don.
If you are looking for anything special during the holiday season, you can stop by the Fat Apple for delicious homemade pies, pepperoni rolls, and cookie trays.
“The cupcakes are top tier, and I also love their baklava if I’m really feeling that”, said sophomore Maria Faulstick.
If you are looking for something fun to do, they even offer Breakfast with Santa, a visit with the Grinch, and cookie decorating with Mrs. Claus.
“The Fat Apple is so good. I love their pepperoni rolls and Dubai chocolate bars,” said senior Tori Canestraro.
