LaBowls, a small business in Wheeling, has been making its mark since the start of the 2025 autumn season. LaBowls has a variety of food items that you can choose from, but the most popular item would be their iconic acai bowls. An acai bowl is a Brazilian food that mixes up various frozen berries. Acai bowls gained popularity in California in the early 2000s, so it was somewhat surprising that they never eventually made their way to West Virginia. Many locals say that they love LaBowls and what it has to offer Wheeling.
Acai bowls were an easy pick for LaBowls.
“Coming from a bigger city, acai bowls were everywhere. She started making them often while we were both in high school, and they were so good. After Sami graduated from PA school in Savannah, Georgia, it was always a thought that we could start a smoothie bowl business in Wheeling. Thanks to a ton of support from our family, friends, and local businesses, we have been able to start strong,” said Brian Campbell, co-owner.
LaBowls never stays in the same location. They move around Wheeling to set up their business.
“We believe there’s a really good opportunity to bring something new and fresh to the area. Being able to move around different locations allows a ton of eyes and new customers to try the product. Not only do we enjoy getting to pop up at new places, but we are also extremely excited to be in a physical location in the near future. When we do decide on a physical spot, we will continue to do pop-ups around the area,” said Campbell.
The company has a variety of flavors/toppings to put on their bowls. The most common toppings to put on a bowl are granola, fruit, and honey.
“Sami is the master mind behind all of this! She does such a great job of mixing new ideas with fresh flavors, ” said Brian, ” I truly think going with trends and understanding what people really like and being able to tie that into a smoothie bowl is awesome.”
A senior, Hallie Lawson, goes to LaBowls frequently and has a favorite flavor at LaBowls.
“I like their OG bowls the most, because it has everything I like on them,” said Lawson.
LaBowls has a variety of toppings you can choose from to go on your Bowl.
“I get the base with strawberries, bananas, blueberries, and apples,” said Hallie.
LaBowls has such a strong community that supports them.
“I know the people who own it, and they work so hard. They put all their time into it, and it’s handmade right in front of you. I like that you can see how they make it, and they put their soul into it,” said Lawson.
Please be sure to support LaBowls at their next pop-up!
