For book lovers in Ohio County, the public library offers more than just shelves of stories. It’s also home to a teen book club led by Carrie Leib. The club reads a new story every month and meets on the second Tuesday to discuss the book together, creating a lively and engaging atmosphere. Meeting regularly within the welcoming walls of the library, the club attracts readers of all ages and backgrounds, fostering a space where everyone can share their opinion together.
Carrie Leib, Head of the Children’s Department & Youth Services at the library, has helped shape the book club into an inclusive community. Each month, members also get to vote on the next genre of book, making every meeting a new adventure for all types of readers. January will be SCI-FI!
“When I was a teenager I loved reading books during my freetime but not a lot of my friends did the same, but the ones who did I connected with in the best ways! I wanted a book club to be an opportunity for teens to be able to meet people who like reading as much as they do,” said Mrs. Leib.
Her commitment to encouraging new members creating thoughtful conversations is evident in every meeting.
The club’s impact is best illustrated through its members, like Julie Brammer. Julie, a student who first heard about the book club in middle school, has become a regular member.
“I enjoy book club because it is a way for me to discover new books and genres that I like, and I get to talk to people and learn what opinions they have and how they differ from mine. I’ve been in it for three years and have had a great experience so far,” said Brammer.
Whether you’re a lifelong reader or just looking to reconnect with books, the Ohio County Library’s book club provides the perfect environment to explore new genres, share perspectives, and build lasting friendships. Check out their programming today!
