Wheeling Park students are painting a mural in the multi-purpose room. The multi-purpose room is a space for students in the SUCCEED department.
“The students experience therapy and it’s a calming space for them. Mrs. Cox asked about the painting. I have two students who are involved; K’Lyn Neidert and Levi Powell. The design was created by Levi Powell, and they are both working together. It’s a collaboration between the SUCCEED Department and Penny’s Art Club. There are three teachers and twelve art students,” said art teacher Mrs. Freeman.
Senior Levi Powell is one of the main students involved in the mural’s creation.
“I am so excited to be a part of this mural. This piece is so important. The multi-purpose room is huge and lacks color; big and blank white walls. It makes the space seem negative and empty,” said Powell.
Some areas in the school have been painted to make the space seem more complex and less negative.
“This mural will not only add positivity and color to the room, but also a message,” said Powell. “Everyone is welcome at Wheeling Park High School. Our SUCCEED department is near and dear to my heart as a future special education teacher. Getting to work with these students and incorporating their own art into this mural is truly a blessing. I hope these students get joy from seeing color in the once-empty room and seeing their artwork.”
It’s always good and refreshing to see some type of art and a pop of color in a building!
