Decorating for Christmas is different for everyone. Some people decorate for Christmas the second it hits November and some wait until the last minute. Why is it so important to some people when others put up their tree and start decorating? People certainly have strong opinions on the topic. For me, I don’t really care when people decorate.
On one end, decorating at the end of November gives Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas each their own time to be celebrated properly. “I think that all holidays need to have their time to shine,” said senior Bryn Ernst. I understand this sentiment, but holidays don’t have feelings. They don’t care if you give them time to shine. The holiday doesn’t care if you are eating Thanksgiving dinner with a Christmas tree in the background or if you are passing out Snickers with Santa watching over.
“We decorate for Christmas early, because Christmas is a much bigger holiday in my family,” said senior Isabelle Thomas.
So what if you decorate in the middle of November? What if you want to decorate for Thanksgiving but you are so excited for Christmas and you want to have the best of both worlds. The last time I checked Santa and Tom the Turkey get along just fine.
“My family is big on Christmas but still want to celebrate each holiday,” said senior Alice Hughes. I see what Alice is saying. Enjoy each holiday then. Decorate whenever makes your family happy.
For me, my family jumps from Halloween to Christmas, because we normally travel the week of Thanksgiving. Our house is a winter wonderland inside while the pumpkins and mums sit on the porch, and we are not sorry – not one bit. I would argue that people make a deal of the decorating timeframe just to have something to argue about. I say do what you want no judging.
