The Festival of Sound, a serenation that highlights the Wheeling Park performing arts, has just achieved its 30th anniversary! The Treble Ensemble, Men’s Ensemble, Concert Choir, Voice of Freedom, and Young Patriots choirs will be performing alongside the many bands. The directors have been planning and practising every day for the Festival of Sound. The festival takes place on December 12, 13, and 14.
Mrs. Greenwood, the choir director at Wheeling Park, is planning to make the Festival of Sound unforgettable.
“The 30th Anniversary of our event will showcase the holiday past, present, and future of the Festival of Sound,” said Mrs. Greenwood. “Each performance will feature something different, including some images from Festival of Sounds’ past, some alumni involvement, and participation from our future Patriots across the other schools in Ohio County.”
The choirs rehearse the tracks tirelessly every day.
“Students have been working hard in class every day since October and at rehearsals after school to make sure everything is ready to go for December 12, 13, and 14,” said Mrs. Greenwood. “The real magic will begin when we have our combined rehearsals the week prior to performance. The students will get to experience for the first time this school year what it’s like to collaborate live with about 300 of their peers. This is truly where the beauty and thrill of connection through music take place.”
The repertoire of the Festival of Sound consists of many traditional Holiday tunes.
“Our repertoire selection has also taken on this theme of past, present, and future, featuring traditional holiday classics that have been a part of the production throughout the past 30 years, new, fresh takes on some familiar tunes, and an entirely new piece commissioned specifically for this production. I don’t want to give too much away, it is worth attending the show and experiencing it yourself,” said Mrs. Greenwood.
Mrs. Grube, the strings director at Wheeling Park, is planning to make her second year as director even better than the first.
“I know how things go a little bit better this year, so I think that we’re on the ball. It’s fast-paced, though,” said Mrs. Grube.
Mrs. Grube has many things that she favours during the Festival of Sound season.
“I love the spirit of the concert. Everyone comes together to make sure that the show goes well, and we get to work with instruments and voices that we don’t normally put together. The students are always excited to…put on a fun show,” said Mrs. Grube.
Be sure to support the performing arts on December 12, 13, and 14. Students may enter free of charge with a student ID.
