As soon as Wicked For Good started, I was immediately hooked. The opening scene was so seamlessly put together, and I had literal chills when Elphaba made her first appearance. As someone who has never seen the musical, I did find both movies enjoyable, but I did like part 2 better.
One thing I really enjoyed about Wicked For Good, was the emotion Ariana Grande put into her character Glinda. Especially when Grande sang “I Couldn’t Be Happier,” the different emotions she showed through her facial expressions and her vocal range was beautiful.
I love how Cynthia and Ariana’s chemistry transfers onto the screen because of how close they are. Due to their offscreen bond they share, it creates an even better cinematic experience for the audience, especially when they sing together.
I really liked the sequence of the musical number and song, “Wonderful.” It had a very “Oz” tone full of color and whimsy that made you enthralled to not look away. The special effects and camera crew did a “wonderful” job with capturing the moment.
Although I enjoyed part 2 more, I agree with the fact that part 1 had a way better soundtrack. Wicked more memorable songs like “What Is This Feeling?,” “Dancing Through Life,” “Popular,” “One Short Day,” and “Defying Gravity.” These songs gained much popularity once the movie came out, but only a few from part 2 have struck social media such as “No Good Deed” and “For Good.”
I liked For Good more than Part One because I felt as if it had more action which kept my attention. The beginning of Part One, in my opinion, was slow, but was the exact opposite for For Good. “Wicked For Good” had many plot twists and the development had my eyes glued to the screen.
“I was pleasantly surprised because I felt like people were kind of hating on it in reviews, and so I was not expecting to love it as much as I did, but it was phenomenal,” said Ms. Mathieu. “I thought the singing was amazing, the acting was wonderful, the costumes were phenomenal, so I was not let down.”
For those who have seen the musical in person and cherish it, they might have a different take on the movies. Senior Grace Mull has been thoroughly influenced by the Musical, and it inspired her to take on an acting career.
“I have insanely high expectations, not only from how they blew up the first film, but because they doubled the runtime,” said Mull. “The runtime of the actual show is two and a half hours, and the runtime of Part One was two and a half hours so they blew the whole thing up.”
“I really thought they did a good job echoing the Broadway show,” said Ms. Mathieu. “There were some new songs added in so that was kind of like, ‘oh, I wasn’t expecting that,’ but I felt like every piece of the story that happened was directly taken from the Musical.”
If you saw Part 1 or like musicals, you should give “Wicked For Good” a chance!
