Homecoming Queen: Sammie Ashmore

Samantha “Sammie” Ashmore was crowned the 2025 Homecoming Queen on October 10th at the half-time show. All of the candidates took the field with their families and drew from playing cards to determine who walked away with the crown.

“I wasn’t expecting it at all. I’m really excited because this has been a lot of fun, and it’s been a lot of fun with all my friends,” said Ashmore

Moments after the results, friends from the student section and on the field stormed Ashmore to celebrate.

“It makes me feel really loved that all my friends are coming out and supporting me, and just really excited for me,” said Ashmore.

Little Miss Patriot Crowns Two Little Queens

On October 10th, the Wheeling Park Cheer Squad crowned two Little Miss Patriots who fundraised the highest donation to cheer with Lyla Litman. This crowning is the culmination of fundraising and celebrating young cheer enthusiasts.

Not only does cheer overall offer many opportunities for girls on the team, but Wheeling Park cheer also hosts numerous events for our future patriots. “Little Miss” is when a high school cheerleader is paired up with a future Patriot cheerleader.

Many members of the Wheeling Park Cheer Team look forward to this fundraiser. Karringtyn Miller is not only a junior at Wheeling Park High School, but she and her “Little Miss” last year were crowned the winners of the 2024-2025 season.

“The fun part about ‘Little Miss’ is seeing your little so happy. The fundraiser helps us so much, and it’s something I always look forward to,” said Karringtyn.

The fundraiser not only teaches kids the fundamentals of raising money, but it also teaches them about friendly competition.

“Friendly competition is important in cheer because it motivates me and my teammates to do better and push each other to our full potential,” said Emily Laflam, a current senior on the cheer team.

This fundraiser has covered many things that the cheer team needs in order to be a cheer team.

“We make a nice amount of money to help cover the expenses for the year,” said Coach Shepherd. “Such as choreography, music, and other things for the cheerleaders.
