It’s finally that time of the year, the flowers are blooming, the rain is falling, and Saint Patty’s day is right around the corner. With Saint Patrick’s day arriving, so is the over recognition of our auburn haired acquaintances. When most people think of Saint Patrick’s of course the Irish folklore of leprechauns comes to mind, but that doesn’t mean that every gingered person is a fairy in the form of an old man.

“When I was younger I used to be picked on for having red hair,” says Christian Bryan when asked if he had ever been made fun of for his hair color.

All of the people interviewed had very similar answers. Sophia Conners says, “I have by my siblings, which is funny because they are also gingers.”

“Oh you have no soul, Oh you have red hair” says Taylor Miller when describing a few of the comments she has received recently.

Gingerism has not only reached tremendous heights lately, but also made its way into family matters. Another trend that has arisen in the last two years, is dyeing your hair copper, or strawberry blonde.

Taylor Miller expresses her feelings on the trend, “I think it’s funny, because it’s usually the same people that made fun of gingers, and now they’re dying their hair red because it’s trendy,”  but there were some mixed opinions on this matter.

Sophia Conners states “I think it’s cool that people want to have the same hair color as me.”

The ginger experience seems pretty rough, but all participants expressed their enjoyment of their natural red locks.

“I think it is a unique hair color to have,” says Christian Bryan “not that many people have it, so it makes you stand out”.
