The Wheeling Park High School science bowl team took third place Saturday February 3rd, 2024.
They competed in 5 rounds of round robin to move to double elimination. The team went 4-1 to move on. In the first game, the team fell to Morgantown moving to the losers bracket winning the next three rounds before falling to Morgantown again and securing a third place finish. The team won $600 and each member won several STEM prizes.
Each Wednesday at 6:45am, the WPHS science bowl team has practice at the school to prepare for upcoming competitions.
“Every Wednesday we have practice where we go through a round of questions that are similar to the ones that will be at the actual competition and in my own time I can look through quizlets or science trivia,” said Kaleb Trimmier.
“We had our local competition that was a practice for the state one,” said Grant Kenamond.
With many different topics that are competed at the science bowl, most of the team enjoys competing in chemistry the most.
“We all like chemistry then we have to learn other things,” said Kathryn Prather.
“With my science classes at school, I’ve built up a lot of knowledge over the years, and it’s just fun to be able to use that in a competitive setting,” said Grant Kenamond.
The high school science bowl is a great way to use the love of science in a fun competitive way with people who enjoy it just as much as you do!
