T’was the week before Holiday break, and all through Park High
Students were buzzing with excitement, counting down as each day went by.
Stockings were hung in the main office with care,
And the spirit of the Holiday season, filling the air.
The classrooms were filled with happiness and cheer,
Though the absent sheet was the longest that it had been all year.
With a tree by the main steps, and one in Yost’s room too,
As well as fairy lights hung in the school store, for a beautiful view.
Then finally it happened, the students heard the last bell ring
And quickly they flooded out into the cold winter sting.
Away the teachers waved, with a smile on their faces
Knowing that now, at last, was their Christmas oasis.
When out in the front lot there arose such a clatter,
The teachers flew from their desks to see what was the matter.
They put their pens down, and ran quickly down the steps,
They pushed open the door, not knowing what to expect.
When what to their wandering eyes should appear
But Dr. Miller, of course, glowing with holiday cheer.
And with a soft tone she spoke, “You deserve a reward for good reason.
So I’ll put in a raise for the holiday season!”
They cheered and they smiled and they jumped and they laughed,
Though the sight of the many gifts she had made them all gasp
A big sack of presents that she carried on her back,
She smiled from ear to ear as she opened the sack.
She began with Mr. Orth, giving him a shiny new bowling ball,
and good luck to the Bowling Team, wishing more wins for them all.
She then presented the Social Studies department, giving each class new books
And to the English teachers she handed out new writing utensils, for the students’ essay hooks.
To the Speech and Debate coaches, another win at States,
And the Phys ED teachers and coaches, more basketballs, more weights!
For the cooks and custodians many bouquets of flowers
And to the math teachers new calculators, made to calculate for hours.
And lastly the secretaries, giving them new walkies and new phones
And the CTE teachers, the finest tools with precision hones.
When the gift-giving ended, the teacher’s faced turned sad and blue,
“Farewell Park Staff” said Dr. Miller, “Until next time, adieu”.
They heard her yell back as down the hill she did drive,
“Merry Christmas Wheeling Park, you show wonderful Park Pride!”
And therefore ends this story of Dr. Miller and the staff of Park High.
Without whom, we all could not really get by.
I hope that you read this and have a good laugh.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from the Park Press staff.
