March is the month where all the amazing accomplishments and hard work that women do all around the world are celebrated. No different, Wheeling Park High School has quite a few amazing and hard working females on staff.
Mrs. Jeffers has been teaching at Wheeling Park High School for six years and is a math teacher. She is an example role model to all of the students but especially the female students.
“There are so many girls who begin to feel that they are not good in math and science, so if they have the role models then that is something to give young girls to aspire to be,” said Jeffers.
STEM careers like engineering and technology are predominately male dominated professions. As a women in one of those fields it is hard to be taken seriously most of the time by men.
“In my previous career as a female engineer, I was often treated very patronizing,” said Ms. Jeffers.
Ms. Marshall is another teacher that should be recognized during Women’s History Month. She teaches graphic design here at Wheeling Park.
“In the field I think sometimes it can be challenging to be a women. I don’t know why we have to prove ourselves over and over again but that really is a thing. Most of my jobs have had bosses who are men, but my most recent jobs have female bosses and it has been a different experience,” Ms. Marshall
Another teacher at Wheeling Park that makes celebrating women easy is Mrs. Schultz. She is a graduation coach and innovations coach.
“As a teacher women’s history month means a lot and whenever we think about things through history about the fact the women had to fight to get the right to vote even. I think it’s important to have women’s history month because it emphasizes all the changes that we have had in our country over the years,” said Mrs. Schultz
These are just three of the special female teachers at Wheeling Park. The list could go on and on. The students at Park are very lucky to be taught and mentored by some of these women. The should definitely be celebrated in the month of March, but they should really be thanked all year long.
