The Park Players have been around for the past 48 years, beginning in 1976. One of our teachers, Ms Redd, explains that she has been a part of The Park Players for the past two years. They recently returned from their New York Trip.
“The Thespian Society trip is part of the International Associate Society 1942 celebration of theater for Wheeling Park High School. The purpose of this society is to recognize theater production,” said Redd. “It provides for leadership and scholarships, and recognizes the value of theater education.”
To be able to join the trip you need to have at least 100 hours working in the theater at Wheeling Park as you become thespian. and be eligible to go on the trip.
“Once we’re there, our main purpose is to go and see three musicals on Broadway,” Ms. Redd said.
This year they saw The Outsiders, which is one of the most winning musicals of 2024, as well as Redwood, which just premiered this year on January 24. It was an exciting experience for them that they saw these musicals. They also saw The Great Gatsby.
This was Mrs. Schultz’s first time joining them on the trip as a first-year theater assistant, and this is her first time seeing a production on Broadway. This is part of a learning experience, so they can bring what they saw and learned here to Wheeling Park to put it into their theater.
“My favorite part of the trip was being able to explore the city with my friends and see some incredible performances! My experience on the trip was amazing, I had a wonderful time with my friends. I learned that I can’t go too long again without going back!” said Gianna Landis, a senior who went on the trip.
Please come join their club, which meets week three in the Beneke Theater!
I would like future Park Players to know that there is a group of people who are a part of their school community that will act as a support system and outlet for them. If you are even the slightest bit interested in theater, just want to come watch funny skits every third club week, or you want to do crews and be on stage, I would encourage all students to join,” said Landis.
