The week after homecoming, Wheeling Park High School had numerous physical altercations. These incidents forced Mrs. Dailer to make sure everyone knows what the disciplinary actions are. Though she wanted to make it clear that it’s a very small percentage of students having these physical altercations, and that it’s about 1% of the student body. If there is a physical altercation, the discipline is at least a 10 day suspension that can be extended if the fight is bad enough, or one sided.
“We also have the ability to add up to 45 days at the Ohio County Learning Center or the alternative school,” said Mrs. Dailer.
Though, another option Mrs. Dailer said, is working with Officer Wilson to press charges against a student if it is one sided.
Another thing students should be mindful of, Mrs. Dailer said, is videoing a fight.
“Those [videoing a fight] can also result in suspension, as well as cell phone jail for the inappropriate use of technology,” said Dailer.
Though, obviously fighting is the worst choice a student can make, and they have the option of counseling mediation.
“We have done that with students and mediate the situation,” said Mrs. Jones.
Mrs. Jones also had a tip of advice for everyone that may be in a situation with another student, is to not share the issue on social media.
