Wheeling Park High School, hosted the Ohio County Schools Choral Concert, which included Bridge Street, Warwood, Wheeling, and Triadelphia middle schools and Wheeling Park’s choirs on October 14th in the JB Chambers Performing Arts Center. This allowed students in the 8th grade to participate in a high school setting, sing along with a large group of people, and build relationships with the high schoolers through music.
There were a variety of different songs that everyone had enjoyed, and the audience had a great opportunity to listen to a beautiful collection of songs and watch students work together in harmony.
Mrs. Greenwood and Mr. Mazure, choir teachers at Wheeling Park High School, were the directors for the Choral Concert. They have been working with their students since the beginning of the school year to practice singing their roles. The choir classes from WPHS which participated include the Concert Choir, Voices of Freedom, and Young Patriots.
The choir practiced their songs during class, along with getting to learn how to read notes and working with the solfége system. They rotated through songs that they performed to make sure that they were prepared for the concert, and also reviewed the parts of songs that needed to be fixed. The classes also get to learn different types of songs and genres.
“I think the performance is jam packed with a variety of music meant for everyone, including recognizable pop tunes, upbeat pieces driven by percussion, beautiful ballads, and driving gospel pieces,” said Mrs. Greenwood.
Ludovica Santini, a freshman at WPHS, is a soprano for the Concert Choir who participated in the October concert. Santini enjoys the environment surrounding her choir class, because of the kindness distributed by her fellow classmates and the methods in which Mrs. Greenwood teaches, of working with her student to ensure their confidence of singing.
“Last year I was able to do this concert as an eighth grader and now being able to be one of the people up here being able to, like, to see the eighth graders, I think that’s my favorite part,” said Santini.
In the words of Mrs. Greenwood, “with over 250 voices joining in song, it will be a performance you won’t want to miss!”
If you were unable to attend the October choral concert, the next big performance will be Festival of Sound in December! Make sure you put it on your calendar so you don’t miss out!
