Mrs. Farrow, a former 9th and 10th-grade history teacher, switched her job to counseling at Wheeling Park High School. She has been teaching for over a decade and plans to retire from her counseling career. Mrs. Farrow is known for being a kind person and an impactful teacher for her former students.
“I like to teach, but the interactions were super important. I would have a lot of interactions that I would make positive connections with, and so I just thought it was another way to do that kind of stuff,” said Farrow.
She has made many connections with students that were not easy to walk away from.
“It was definitely not easy to switch. These ladies in counseling do a lot, especially at the beginning of the school year. I’m just learning everything, like the systems and how to do things. They have given me a lot of support, and I’m definitely enjoying it,” said Farrow.
All the women in counseling work tirelessly every day to adjust not only students’ schedules, but also those of all the teachers. Mrs. Farrow works tirelessly to fix everyone’s schedules.
Mrs. Jones, a counselor at Wheeling Park, says that Mrs. Farrow has flourished in counseling.
“It’s so nice to have someone with a perspective of someone who has been in a classroom. She was a great teacher, so her coming to the counselor and giving that great classroom perspective, she’s great,” said Mrs. Jones.
Mrs. Farrow has made so many relationships with students that have made a lasting impact.
“She’s so sweet and easy to work with. She’s one of those teachers who love a classroom, so it just comes so naturally for her because she already has that relationship with kids.
The staff in counseling took on 100 new kids, so it is said that Mrs. Farrow has been a major help in taking on so many students.
“I really do enjoy working at Wheeling Park High School, and I graduated from here. I think high school is a really important part of students’ lives. What you do over the next couple of years, or how we have set you up for success over the next couple of years, is really important for the rest of your life. It changes the outcome for the rest of your life depending on where you go from here. Our role is super vital and important,” said Farrow.
Mrs. Farrow has seen many new and different aspects of the school due to her job switch.
“When you teach, it’s a lot about content, like you want your students to understand the content. When in reality, all of our lives are very different, and we are all going through a lot. Life isn’t easy, we all know that as we get older, and so there is more outside of the classroom that a lot of students are dealing with, and people in general. I think it’s really important that we provide support for life skills and support for students,” said Farrow.
Mrs. Farrow made many deep connections with her students that she misses.
“I miss the laughs with my students. Just having a group of students and joking around when someone says something funny. I’m kind of by myself sometimes and on one with students. I still laugh with those students when they come in, but it’s a little different,” said Farrow
Wheeling Park is so excited to see this new chapter of Mrs. Farrow’s life!
