The Wheeling Park girls’ track team had its first track meet Saturday, March 29, at Steubenville.
This was the first meet of the year for all freshman runners and throwers, namely, freshman Brooke Petticord, who ran the 4×100, 4×200, and 4×400.
“I did pretty well. I did better than I thought I would, and I have a lot of room for improvement,” said Petticord.
The seniors all competed in their last-first meet of the year on Saturday; one of them is Lauren Spears, a four-year runner and thrower.
“I did better than I thought I would in the shot put because I PR’d (personal record), however, in my 100-meter dash I didn’t do as well as I wanted to,” said Lauren Spears.
The team has great potential and can only build up from there.
“The team as a whole did better than I thought we would, given that it was our first meet, but there is still definitely room for improvement as we get further in the season,” said Lauren Spears.
The Dick Dei Track Classic is the perfect way to support our track team and will be hosted at the WPHS Track on April 12, 2025 beginning at 9:15 a.m.
