As you walk through the hallways here at Wheeling Park High School, you may notice the many trash cans set out to catch leaking water from the pipes in the ceilings in the math department.
“So there’s two different things happening: one is we do have a leak in one of the sprinkler systems up by math, and two is our roofs need replaced,” said Mrs. Dailer, head principal of Wheeling Park High School.
Wheeling Park High School is a big building, and with that comes a lot of maintenance.
“Obviously, this is a really large building. There’s a ton of upkeep. We’re lucky to have the number of custodians we have, and we’re really lucky to have the maintenance department spend a lot of time helping us keep the building up and fresh. Large projects like a new roof obviously cost a lot of money– securing the funding and then putting it out for a bid for the work to be done just takes time,” said Dailer.
The traffic is already high in the hallways, but do the trash cans make it worse?
“Actually, I’ve been pretty impressed with how students have just kind of rolled with it. They have been very careful about not bumping into the cans or knocking them over, and that was my big concern when we first started having them out there,” said Miss Jeffers, math teacher whose classroom is across from the trash cans.
The question people are asking is when are they going to replace the roof?
¨The Board of Education approved a new roof through funding through the School Building Authority. It will start in May, and it will take until about October or November to complete because its a huge project,” said Dailer.
