Mr. Orth has been a teacher here at Wheeling Park high school for 12 years. He teaches anatomy and physiology honors one and two, along with advising an independent study. Any of his students would tell you that Orth loves teaching anatomy and physiology, and you can see that in the classroom, but why does Orth love it so much?
“I love teaching because I love getting to know students and helping them find what they’re calling is in life while teaching them a little science along the way,” said Mr. Orth.
So many of the kids at Wheeling Park High School take anatomy. It is that one class that everyone wants to take, but why? What makes this class so special and different from all of the other classes at Park?
“I took his class because I want to go into the medical field and I heard that his class was really good to take for the medical field, ” said Emma Iverson.
Over the past 12 years Orth has found many different ways to teach his classes.
“I saw people using a big paper to teach a system, when Mr. Dunaway was here we used a smaller version of it but it was focused on one system. I thought why can’t we just do a big paper with all of the systems in it,” said Mr. Orth.
While everyone always talks about the big paper, students also talk about how easy it is to learn in his class.
“I really like doing dissections in his class because it’s a good way to get hands on experience as to what we are learning rather than just looking at power points,” said senior Mia Castellucci.
In anatomy one the main focuses are the big paper and dissections. While Anatomy two also has dissections the difference is the medical school practices, and research papers.
