Throughout the first weekend of May, the Park Players are putting on a production of Into the Woods at Wheeling Park High School to continue the tradition of producing an annual spring musical.
In years past, Wheeling Park has been known for their phenomenal sets during shows, such as Mamma Mia in 2024, and Mean Girls in 2023. While the set is still expected to be just as amazing this year, you may notice something a bit different!
“It’s going to be a green set. We’re trying to make [the set] out of mostly recycled materials, especially the woods,” said Mrs. Sarah Redd, director of the musical.
It is hoped that students outside of the arts program help benefit the show as well. A great way for this is to bring in recycling items, along with the Park Players!
“We are going to be doing a drive for these recyclable items. If anybody has empty water bottles of any size, or even old craft items at home, we can use it for the set,” said Schultz.
If performing isn’t your style, but you love to be involved, another option is to work with the tech crew for the show.
“We’re having our first [crew] meeting on Thursday, February 6th, after school for just about half an hour. People can come with their friends and help us any time, every day until May,” said Redd.
A final way to benefit the arts department is simply to see the show and support the cast and crew.
“We have an amazing cast, and we have an amazing crew. We’re just excited to get working on it, and we hope that everybody can support,” said Schultz.
With rehearsals picking up, the journey Into the Woods begins, and the Park Players hope you decide to take this journey with them.
