She rewrote the Wheeling Park record books. Actually, her points record, whatever number it ends at, may never be beat. Alexis Bordas hasn’t stopped there, helping Wheeling Park to a State Championship last season. She doesn’t just show her talents at a local level, but also helping her AAU(Amateur Athletic Union) team to a national title.
Considering she has so many individual and team accolades, she does have a couple that she is more proud of.
“Probably the school record…with the history of the great players Wheeling Park has had come through, and especially Dee Davis who’s at the top for so long,” Bordas said.
Alexis is very proud of the things she’s done while playing for Park, and she said that since her biggest goal going into high school was a State Championship, winning it to her was more special than the AAU National Championship.
For Wheeling Park, they are now about halfway through the regular season, and she says that they are doing better than some people thought, and that their first two losses were against two really good Ohio teams.
“I think we’re probably doing better than people thought, which I always expected us to do as well as we’re doing…we see spurts of just how good we can be,” Bordas said.
Bordas also is very appreciative of the family support that she has around her.
“I have five siblings…and all my cousins, I have 16 on my mom’s side and they’re pretty much always there(at games), that’s the best thing in my life is just how much family I have and how much support I have,” said Bordas.
Basketball and school may be the two most prominent things that Alexis is known for, though outside of those two things, she says that she is definitely a “girly girl.” And that although she’s a two-time West Virginia Gatorade Player of the Year basketball player, she loves everything that you would expect a typical girl to love.
“I love pink; I love sparkles; my phone case is pink, my keys have sparkles on them, my rooms completely glitter, so that’s something people probably don’t expect about me since I play basketball,” said Bordas. She also is a self-acclaimed Taylor Swift enthusiast, knowing any and all things Taylor Swift related.
The list is long all of the accolades and goals that she has reached: two-time Gatorade Player of the Year, state champion, all-time school record, 2,000 points breaker, and also even more recently a nominee for Mcdonald’s All-American, and the list goes on. Next year, Bordas will play for Duquesne University, a Division I school in Pittsburgh, PA.
