Throughout her life, Cameron Fullerton– a senior at Wheeling Park High School– has exhibited a magnificent talent in art, and not just through a singular medium. From sculpting to painting, Cameron does it all and does it extremely well.
“I’ve always liked art and I can still remember drawing in kindergarten. Art has always been something that just comes natural to me. However, as silly as it sounds, I would say I got into painting during 2020 when the sky paintings were viral on TikTok. I randomly get an idea, almost like a picture in my head, and I can’t stop thinking about it or focus on anything else until I draw or write it down,” said Fullerton.
Despite this innate talent she’s had for years, she does not go at it alone. In fact, she has a specific person in mind for who primarily supports her creative pursuits.
“I’ve always been in my own world when it comes to art, but my dad has by far been the most supportive. Thanks to my dad, I was able to display a lot of my art at Clientele in the past for events he has helped create and host,” said Fullerton.
Her father, owner of a tattoo shop in Elm Grove called The Rose Tattoo Collective, also plays a major role in the future she seeks as an artist and what she is currently doing to prepare for it.
“I’m currently his tattoo apprentice and so he’s teaching me literally everything about that. I plan to finish my tattoo apprenticeship and work at my father’s tattoo shop as a tattoo artist,” said Fullerton.
As an avid supporter of art and all its forms, anyone who wishes to pursue their artistic talents should look no further than Cameron Fullerton as a role model for such an endeavor. She herself has many words of wisdom, from her own experience, when it comes to the process of nurturing your fledgling talents into something greater.
“Art is an exploration process or trial and error. If you keep creating art you’ll improve. I think it’s most important to get importation from other artists and from the world around you. The thing that was most helpful for me to improve was simply just looking at references of images. It’s also important to remember that art doesn’t have to be serious, I draw silly things because I think it’s fun,” said Fullerton.
Art is something that can take great patience and time to create, or perhaps just a few minutes with a sketchbook and a pencil, but no matter how or when it is created– it is something wonderful, and everyone should be thankful for artists such as Wheeling Park’s own Cameron Fullerton who bring such wonderful things to life.
