She is always 10 steps ahead, always has her drum up and ready to go, and she also has blonde hair! Thinking of Taylor Swift? Nope! Its Ms. Mathieu!
Mathieu started to listen to Taylor Swift in 2006 when she first began putting out her first music. Mathieu has seen her five times and has traveled to three different countries to see Taylor Swift. Mathieu even traveled 3,932 miles to Amsterdam, Netherlands to go see her Eras Tour this past summer. She has been a fan of Taylor Swift for 18 years which has shaped her entire adult life.
Mathieu loves her so much, not just because of the music she makes, but because Taylor Swift is an all-around good person. She loves the feeling that she creates for her and all women in general to have fun and feel supported.
“Women should have fun and support each other and themselves, it’s just joy listening to Taylor Swift,” said Mathieu. “I think she’s a good role model.”
It hasn’t been all positive though. Mathieu broke her leg while at a Taylor Swift themed event at the start of this school year. Of course, Ms. Mathieu was singing her heart while on her way to the emergency room.
Mathieu doesn’t have a favorite album, because her words and her lyrics are all a part of her life.
“I love how much she is true to herself throughout her career, she doesn’t let anyone walk over her,” said Ms. Mathieu.
Mathieu favorite memories of Taylor Swift include when she saw her at Jamboree In The Hills in the early 2000s right outside of Wheeling in Swift’s early career.
“It’s not just music or a concert – it’s memories – with friends, family, relationships, my growth as a person,” said Mathieu.
Some of her favorite songs are “The Black Dog” but she also loves “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me” both from Swift’s newest album The Tortured Poets Department.
Her favorite lyrics include:
“‘What’s a girl gonna do a diamond’s going to shine’ meaning shes teaching every girl that we are diamond’s and we all are gonna shine and nobody is going to bring us down,” said Mathieu.
As Ms. Mathieu inspires students to keep going at Park, her inspiration and source of strength is none other than global sensation Taylor Swift.
“Taylor is the soundtrack to my adult life. And I am so thankful I got to relive those memories at the Eras Tour,” said Mathieu.
