On November 2nd, our boys’ and girls’ cross country teams competed at the State Tournament at Cabell Midland High School.
The girls’ team had one runner qualify to run in the tournament, Brenna Tipton. Brenna is only a freshman, but that did not stop her from competing against talented upperclassmen. She finished 6th overall and was named 1st team all-state for her outstanding performance this season.
“It went really well, I got the time of 19.09 and I placed sixth. It was really fun, because as a freshman I just wanted to go out there and get to know the course, and it felt good placing in the top 10,” said Tipton on her experience at the state tournament.
Tipton has an extremely bright future. She will only continue to turn heads at her insane times in cross country, as well as her unbelievable athleticism in everything she does.
The boys’ team had seven runners qualify to run in the tournament; Jacob Murphy, Tyler Bishop Luca Swart, Thomas Burns, Cole Montanye, and brothers, Redick and Rylan Moore.
Senior, Redick Moore ran 16.49 and finished 15th overall, he was also named 2nd team all-state.
“Just prepared like it was any other race. The whole team just did their regular mileage, two workouts during the week, and then, you know, just reminded everyone to have fun and go out and compete and enjoy it, savor the moment, and that’s what they did,” said Redick Moore
Freshman, Rylan Moore, ran a 16.59 and finished 18th overall, along with his older brother, Rylan was named 2nd team all-state.
“I’m excited to run for the next three years and hopefully get better,” said Rylan.
Sibling rivalries are no joke when it comes to beating one another in a sport you both participate in. The brothers were just three places apart from each other. This was their only season running together at Park.
“It made me better, just to try to stick with them throughout the race and work as a team,” said Rylan about his brother competing along his side at the State Tournament.
On the other hand, Redick saw it as an opportunity to push himself harder throughout the race.
“It was fun, it’s been a fun experience competing against him. You know, it always pushes you, because you never want to be beaten by your little brother. So, it always kind of pushes you to beat him, that was always fun,” said Redick.
