Wheeling Park has two new foreign exchange students this year, Linda Winters and Smilla Sloth. They both are part of a foreign exchange program that allows students to travel abroad for one school year.
Smilla Sloth is a sophomore who is originally from Ry, a small town in Denmark. In her free time, she is a part of the Wheeling Park soccer team and competes in track and field. She came to America to gain knowledge and experience to go into the medical field in Denmark.
“Time is going by so fast, with the fall sports season already ending, it’s sad that we’re already over ¼ of the way done with the year,” said Sloth.
Linda Winters is also a sophomore, and is originally from Basel, the third largest city in Switzerland. In her free time, she is a member of the Wheeling Park cross country team, soccer team, and track and field.
They both agree the biggest difference about school in America is “the amount of security, in Switzerland, you would never see police officers or metal detectors in school,” Winters said.
Linda and Smilla live with the same host family and said it’s nice to live with someone that understands how hard life in a new area can be.
“It’s nice to have someone that understands how I feel, we are going through the same experience, so it’s good to have someone to talk to,” Winters said.
Welcome to Wheeling Park High School, Smilla and Linda!
