Most of the time with sports, it’s not just about being teammates. It is about being a family and forming a lifelong bond with each other.
“I am going to miss my teammates which came with an amazing support system, the entire team, and all of the bus rides. My teammates made Park volleyball so special, and it breaks my heart that it’s time to move forward. Our friendships are so precious, and we all value each other and want to see each other succeed,” said senior Lily Brinker.
“What I’ll miss most about volleyball is playing next to my best friends and making memories with some of my favorite people. This is the closest I have felt to any of my teammates in all of the years on varsity, and I am so fortunate to have created such strong bonds,” said senior Lexi Irwin.
“I’m going to miss the friendships I made, and honestly the little things, like braiding hair. I think those are what stand out when playing a sport in high school, and I think we’ll all be very good friends for a long time,” said Campbell Hughes.
“I’m going to miss all the bonds and friends I made throughout the years, and I just think the sport in general because it’s so much fun. I love going out and playing volleyball, and I’m really going to miss it,” said senior Delaney Randolph.
Senior, Campbell Hughes, enjoys braiding her teammates hair, especially on the bus or as school before games.
“When Campbell braids all of our hair, it makes us feel better going into games, and we love when she tries different styles of braids in our hair,” said Irwin.
When Campbell does each of the girls’ hair, it brings them together before and game and gets them prepared to play.
“A lot of the girls’ swear they play better if their hair is braided. We usually play music and have fun when I do their hair. It really has brought a lot of us girls together, making us play better together,” said Hughes.
“Having our hair braided by Campbell made a lot of us feel confident, and we would all talk while getting our hair braided. Campbell never said no to doing someone’s hair, no matter how tired she was, and she was always willing to uplift someone by braiding their hair. Campbell was definitely our glue and kept us calm and put together,” said Brinker.
Lily Brinker will be playing college volleyball at West Liberty University while majoring in Elementary Education. Delaney Randolph is looking into playing college volleyball, but is still undecided. Campbell Hughes is going to college for business, but always wanted to do cosmetology. Lexi Irwin does not plan on playing college volleyball but will be cheering her former teammates on!
Although the girls are having a tough time saying goodbye to their high school sport they have loved so much, we want to wish them the best of luck with all of their bright futures!
