Wheeling Park freshman, Brenna Tipton, is racing to the top this cross country season. After placing second overall at OVACs this October and becoming the fourth girl in WPHS history to run a sub 19 min race on the Park course she has left everyone around her amazed.
Running cross country is a very intense sport that requires lots of stamina. Even compared to upperclassmen on the team Brenna’s skill is outstanding, especially for her age.
“I like doing the workouts with the older kids, and just not thinking about the age difference, like just running,” said Tipton
Brenna’s running story began when she was just a kid. Growing up her mom was always running and then, at just ten years old, her mom got her to start running 5k’s and later joined her middle school track team in sixth grade. Now, Brenna trains by running six out of seven days and working out twice a week to prepare for her races.
When Brenna isn’t running, you can find her kicking a soccer ball or on the softball field. Originally planning to pursue one of her other sports after graduation, Brenna is now starting to think more about her future with running.
“I wasn’t expecting to do this well as like a freshman in cross country. So now it’s kind of like changing my mind,” said Tipton
This season has really encouraged Brenna to continue running and has made her enjoy the sport even more. She especially likes the kindness of runners from the other teams.
“All the kids from the other schools are very encouraging and they’re all nice,” said Tipton.
With all of Brenna’s extraordinary talent at just fourteen years old, it seems that her running career can only go up from here.
