Sometimes we all tend to struggle and fall behind in our classes. For some people, their study habits aren’t that good, or some tend to fall behind in school work. The IDEA Center provides one on one tutoring, as well as group tutoring. The I.D.E.A Center is a place for Individual Development and Education Assistance- a learning center for those needing assistance in education for Elementary students, ESL students, adult students, or any student needing help.
With the SAT coming up in a few months, and the ACT coming up soon, it’s nice to be prepared with these two big tests coming up for juniors and seniors. Even if you aren’t taking these big tests, it’s always nice to be prepared for upcoming tests in your classes. Whether it’s science, math, English or social studies, the IDEA Center can help with it all. As a student myself, it’s always nice to have help outside of school. It’s nice to be prepared for upcoming tests, school projects, and any other school related things.
Owner of the tutoring center, Helen Bradley has over 15 years of teaching experience in Ohio County. Her most recent experience was at Middle Creek Elementary School. Since moving the IDEA Center to West Virginia Northern Community College in August, center personnel are training student teachers in their Foundations of Education program. They help with tutoring, organizing a classroom, creating lesson plans and projects for students, and basic operational tasks around the center. They are also creating a Teacher Resource Binder for use in their student teaching career.
“We now have 4500 square feet of learning space to accommodate numbers of students during the day and after school. If you need extra help in study skills, completing homework, or preparing for tests or projects, call the IDEA Center at 304 214-8993. We are looking forward to assisting as many students as possible,” said Bradley.
Also, the Division of Rehab Services is offering financial assistance, which can be applied to tuition at the IDEA center, to those students with IEP’s or learning difficulties. Call Janet Judy at 304 238-1092 at that office to see if you qualify.
There are many benefits and oppourtunities for students to get tutoring in and around Wheeling Park.
“I think it’s really important that if you’re struggling in one of your classes that you reach out for some extra help or some tutoring. A lot of teachers will use before school, after school, and activity period as a great time to get tutoring. I know all of the math teachers allow you to get activity passes for you to get tutoring with your math teacher during activity period, or if you feel more comfortable with a different math teacher you can get a pass from them to get extra help with math. If you’re struggling, I think it’s really important to get that extra support to make sure that your grades don’t get worse, and that if you’re working with someone to make sure that you get the knowledge needed to move forward,” said school counselor Mrs. Short.
