According to Vince Lombardi, “There is only one way to succeed in anything…and that is to give it everything”. And that with no doubt describes Brennan Wack, a junior running back for Wheeling Park’s Football Team who just recently proved his hard work and dedication to the team as well as the sport by breaking the record for a single game rushing yard record.
The prior record for rushing yards was 296 in a single game, and Brennan Wack ran 298 yards during the Musselman game on September 13th.
Wack started playing flag football in the first grade, and continued to tackle football in the fifth. To exceed in such a physically demanding task is no breeze in the park, and Brennan makes it seem as such.
“It wasn’t that bad, I was surprised,” said Wack in response to whether the record breaking was exhausting or not.
Though, it never comes that easy. Wack put a lot of hard work and dedication into preparing for an accomplished football season. That being said, he made the effort during the football season, as well as the off season. And that in itself showcases his commitment and diligence.
To say that the school, and his coaches are proud of him is an understatement. Brennan Wack demonstrates a humble, and kind mindset.
“He’s very humble. The highlight for me honestly is at Musselman after the game. I was watching a film of the game and I see this kid on the sideline that kinda jumps in excitement about a play that’s happening on the field. So I rewound it, and it was Brennan, on the sidelines, watching our defense. And Brennan cheered,” said Football Coach Chris Daugherty about Wack.
“This week if he rushes for 50 yards but we win, Brennan Wack will be happy. He’s just a humble guy. When things do go his way and he’s able to stand out, you would never know from how he acts, and what he says, and the way he carried himself in life,” said Daugherty.
According to J.J. Watt, “Remember, once you set a goal, it’s all about how hard you’re willing to work, how much you’re willing to sacrifice and how badly you truly want it”.
Brennan Wack is an inspiration for our school’s football team, as he shows his hard work every day without a doubt. For that alone, he deserves the utmost respect and appreciation. Breaking a record for rushing yards is no easy task. Congratulations, Brennan Wack!
