Football is coming off a 7-3 record from last season and is looking forward to having an even better season this year, “even though we lost a lot of talent on both sides of the ball, we have a bunch of great younger talent coming up. This year will be better than last year because I feel like we are more of a team than last year,” said senior Noah Short
Our boys will be playing a competitive schedule comprising teams from the tri-state area. They will host Butler High School from Bulter County, PA, on October 18th, and travel to Oxford, OH the following Friday to play Talawanda High School, “I have a great feeling about this season as I feel like our team has a really strong connection and a lot of playmakers. I think we have a chance to shock people this year,” said Short.
Our boys won big on the road over previously top 10 ranked by Metro News, Parkersburg South. The final was 35-14. Being the underdogs, they were doubted coming into the game, “offensively, we started really well and then slowed down a little bit. But in the second half, we came out and looked really well, and overall I’m happy with the game offensively. On defense, we played extremely well. The only two touchdowns they scored were little mistakes by us. Altogether, the game went extremely well, and I hope we can continue to execute on both sides of the ball,” said senior Jameson Maynard.
Taking on Spring Mills for the first home game of the year, they will return to the Wheeling Island Stadium, “I am very excited to be home and I’m even more excited for the competition coming up. I love the atmosphere and having all the students at our school watching us,” said senior Cameron Bryan.
“I’m so excited for the first football game and all the football games and just Friday Night Lights in general. I try to play music on Fridays, and that way the kids at least know who we’re playing and whether it’s home or away. Sometimes I give out spirit beads, sometimes I give out dum dum suckers, sometimes I give out just little pom poms, just whatever we can do to get kids thinking about school spirit,” said Mrs. Goodrich in anticipation of the start of Friday Night Lights.
Spring Mills is coming off a big win, 50-0, against Jefferson. Spring Mills is currently 1-0 and ranked 3rd in the state by Metro News. Currently, our boys stand at the 8 spot and are on the up-climb after being ranked 9th last week by Metro News. The theme for the first home game of the year will be red, white, and blue.
